With this workaround, you may avoid waiting for Microsoft’s new operating system to download.

The long-awaited release of Windows 11 has finally come. On Tuesday, Oct. 5, Microsoft’s new operating system began rolling out to eligible devices, and if you’re currently running Windows 10, the update is free. However, because Microsoft is releasing the OS in stages, some customers may not receive an update notification right once. Microsoft stated in an August blog post that “all eligible devices will be provided the free upgrade to Windows 11 by mid-2022.” You don’t have to wait, though: The Windows 11 Installation Assistant is now available. Some customers will be able to download Windows 11 in the same manner as they would any other new version of Windows. Simply go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for Updates from the drop-down menu. You’ll notice Feature update to Windows 11 if it’s available. Install by clicking the Download button.

However, keep in mind that the Windows 11 rollout will be gradual, and it may take months for it to reach your device. New PCs will be the first to receive the upgrade, with all eligible devices receiving it by mid-2022, depending on device age and hardware.

If you’re not in a hurry, the Windows 11 update will be delivered to your device when Microsoft’s data suggests the upgrade is ready for your device in the coming months. If your device is compatible and satisfies the minimal criteria, the upgrading procedure will feel identical to a regular Windows 10 update once the new OS is ready. (Even if it doesn’t, Microsoft will provide a solution, but it will not be maintained.)

What’s in Windows 11

Windows 11 has a more streamlined style that includes pastel hues, softened corners, a new startup sound, and a more Mac-like appearance. The Windows Start menu has been relocated to the center of the screen, with program icons placed in the center next to it. You’ll discover a slew of new desktop features, including widgets that provide information at a glance and simplified virtual desktop construction. Additionally, Android apps will be incorporated into Windows and available for download through the Microsoft Store, albeit this functionality will not be available immediately away. The update is the first significant change to Microsoft’s operating system since the launch of Windows 10 in 2015. For the past year, there have been rumors regarding a big Windows revamp. On May 25, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced that the company was developing “one of the most important updates of Windows in the previous decade,” confirming that a major shift was on the way for the OS’s 1.3 billion users in 2021. As rumored pictures of Windows 11 surfaced in mid-June, Microsoft discreetly revealed that it will cease support for Windows 10 in 2025.
