The new Pixel 6 from Google could be released in the coming months.

The Google Pixel 6 could arrive in October, bringing with it the prospect of a custom chip developed by the firm. Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Alphabet, said during the company’s earnings call on Tuesday that Google’s autumn lineup would have “deep technology investments.” It’s possible that this is a reference to Google’s self-developed Whitechapel chip. Pichai didn’t specifically address the Google Pixel 6, but he did reference the company’s fall lineup, which is expected to contain the updated Pixel.

Pixel 6 will probably be here in October

We have a very decent notion of when Google will release the Pixel 6 based on rumors alone. Since 2016, Google has launched a new Pixel phone in October, with the exception of last year’s Pixel 5, which was announced on September 30. But, for a variety of reasons, including phone release timetables, 2020 was a standout year.

Google’s Pixel release dates are usually quite consistent, with phones being on sale within a week or two of their announcement. As a result, we should expect the Pixel 6 to be announced and released in October.

Unlike Apple and Samsung, Google has kept its phone names unchanged. The initial Pixel was followed by the Pixel 2, the Pixel 3, and so on, so it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to predict that the Pixel 6 will be released in 2021.

Everything Pixel 6 could have, including the Whitechapel chip

The Pixel 6 is said to have an under-screen fingerprint scanner, which will replace the Pixel 5’s rear-mounted sensor, as well as wireless charging and twin stereo speakers. The buzzy “Whitechapel” chip, which would be built by Google rather than chip giant Qualcomm, is perhaps the most intriguing Pixel 6 rumor.

Early reports concerning the Pixel 6’s camera layout suggested that Google might ditch the slightly obtrusive hole-punch format of its most recent phones in favor of an under-display selfie camera. This report is based on a Google patent that did not appear to have a visible front camera, therefore the other interpretation is that there will be no front-facing camera at all. We’re guessing this one won’t come true for the Pixel 6 based on the renders we’ve seen since that show a centered hole-punch front camera.
