iOS 15: How to identify landmarks, plants, and more in Photos using Visual Lookup

There are many improvements to existing features coming in iOS 15, including FaceTime, Messages, Focus, and more. Live Text and Visual Look Up are two brand-new capabilities that go hand-in-hand with each other. Visual Look Up in the Photos app employs machine learning and artificial intelligence to provide users with information on numerous items, places, animals, flowers and plants, and more in their photos.

Visual Look Up is a really helpful and instructive tool that will assist a lot of people in learning more about what they’ve shot. When you take a photo of anything and can’t figure out what it is, Visual Look Up will come to your rescue.

How to use Visual Look Up:

  • Select a photo with a clearly defined topic, such as a flower or an animal, in the Photos app on your iPhone.
  • At the bottom of the screen, look for the info (i) symbol. If it has a small star next to it, press it to see if there’s a Visual Lookup you may look at.
  • To access the Lookup search results, tap the little symbol in the middle of the picture.

It should bring up results using Siri Knowledge, and you can browse for similar results on the web.

To analyze and index the findings, this function will need to sift through all of your photographs. This may take some time if you have a large number of images. I’ve also discovered that it works better with animals, plants, and some objects so far.
