Apple has released HomePod 15.1 software, which includes support for Lossless and Dolby Atmos, which has been a long time coming. While both the HomePod and HomePod mini support Lossless, there is a workaround for the HomePod mini if you wish to listen to Spatial Audio…
When Apple initially announced Lossless and Dolby Atmos compatibility in June, it stated that both the HomePod and the HomePod mini will have these new features in 2021. Following the WWDC21 presentation, Apple began testing HomePod 15 Software.
Because the features weren’t available when iOS 15 and all the other platforms were introduced, the business pushed back Lossless and Dolby Atmos compatibility for its smart speakers. Apple then began testing these functionalities again with the HomePod version 15.1 Software beta, and it is now officially releasing them. Regrettably, it is not as straightforward as it looks.
Even if you just have one speaker, the original HomePod can play music in Lossless and with Spatial Audio activated. Although the HomePod mini can play Lossless music, it does not support Spatial Audio.
