Apple released the second developer betas two weeks after revealing iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 to the public at WWDC 2021. Registered developers can now download iOS 15 beta 2 and iPadOS 15 beta 2 ahead of a public beta release in July and a general release in the fall.
Developers can get iOS 15 beta 2 and iPadOS 15 beta 2 via an over-the-air upgrade in the Settings app. If the update does not show for download right away, keep checking because it can take a few minutes for it to reach all registered devices. 19A5281h is the build number for today’s iOS 15 beta 2 release.
Apple’s next software version will not be finished until the fall, when it will be made available to the entire public. For the time being, testers can expect performance and stability concerns when operating the iOS 15 beta on their primary devices.
Apple is also releasing tvOS 15 beta 2 for Apple TV and HomePod, as well as watchOS 8 beta 2 for Apple Watch, in addition to the second developer betas of iOS 15 and iPadOS 15. The second beta of macOS Monterey has not yet been released; however, it is possible that it will be released early next week.
Here’s what’s new in iOS 15 beta 2 and iPadOS 15 beta 2
Some devices are not supported.
According to the iPadOS 15 beta 2 release notes on the Apple Developer website, today’s release will not work on the 9.7-inch iPad Pro with Wi-Fi + Cellular. The reason is unknown, but it’s likely that Apple discovered a significant flaw and decided to delay the distribution for the afflicted iPad models.
iCloud Private Relay has been updated to include bug fixes.
iCloud Private Relay secures online browsing for iCloud customers, yet in beta 1, this functionality caused some issues for users. The iOS 15 beta 2 “resolved an issue that caused iCloud Private Relay to behave unexpectedly,” according to Apple’s release notes.
Maps has a new icon.
At WWDC 2021, Apple unveiled a new icon for its Maps app, however it was not included in iOS 15 beta 1. The new Maps icon is now available in beta 2. Within the app, it also displays animated driving directions.
Memojis will also be updated with new styles, including the ability to create a personalized dress, Apple announced earlier this month. With iOS 15 beta 2, these options are now available.
SharePlay is a new FaceTime feature that allows users to share a song, video, or even their device’s screen. With iOS 15 beta 2, this functionality is currently operational.
